Back after a little break to cover news from the last two weeks. A lot is going on, apparently not everyone is on holiday because we still have many interesting releases, including many RCs from upcoming major versions.

The native React Compiler rollout continues. React v19.3 seems around the corner. Plenty of TanStack Router/Start and Next.js content.

React Native 0.87 is now out, paving the way for v1.0.

This week we have an interesting React challenger, keeping its mental model but compiled ahead of time. Also various major announcements from the TanStack side.

On the mobile side, we have interesting RN 0.87 PRs to look at, discussions around workers / worklets, a WebGPU/Skia integration, and React Navigation 8 / Screens 5 progress.

Last week, many proposals progressed during a TC39 meeting. npm is going to scan for malware at publish time. Core Web Vitals will now measure SPA soft navigation.

Things are relatively calm on the React side this week, but it's still worth highlighting Base UI becoming the default headless lib in shadcn, and Vinext getting close to production-ready.

On the mobile side, React Native 0.87 went full Marie Kondo. We also have a nice preview of React Navigation 8 and the relentless stream of AI tooling updates.

TypeScript 7.0 is out, and it's 10x faster. Ecma has officially approved ES2026, and HTTP is finally getting its long-awaited QUERY method.

It looks like security is going to be a hot topic this year! 😅
More packages are being compromised, and blog posts are also covering recent RSC vulnerabilities.
Maybe we’re reaching a tipping point, and better security practices will consolidate this year.

On the React Native side, Hermes-node is quite exciting, although it’s very early.

An exciting TC39 meeting is currently underway, and several proposals have already progressed.
Yarn and npm are improving on the security side.
Bun and pnpm are being ported to Rust.
