Hi everyone!

I (Seb) am back, and happy to share that the newsletter crossed 40 000 subscribers! 🎉

Thanks for your support and for sharing the newsletter with your friends.

This week the React 19 stable release that we expected very soon is delayed a bit due to a controversial change in how Suspense behaves.

On the React Native side, the first RC of 0.75 is expected very soon, running under React 19.

Hi everyone!

It's Benedikt again this week, as Sebastien is taking a break.

For me, the week's most interesting topics are not big announcements or new releases but rather subtle hints at future work (type-safe routes models coming to Remix, React Compiler coming to Expo, native intents in Expo Router), as well as some online discussions about React Suspense implementation details (display: none, and, more importantly, a pretty significant change in parallel fetching behavior with React 19).

Hey,

This is Benedikt this week, filling in for Sébastien who’s taking a newsletter break.

React 19 is nearing its final release, with the first RC published this week. Apart from this, there’s not a lot of release activity in the React and React Native communities. So this week, I decided to feature two great pieces of content as headlines in both sections. A seminal 10k-word-long article about Data Fetching Patterns in Single-Page Applications by Juntao Qiu, and a great video overview of all the different ways to build React Native apps with Expo by Simon Grimm.

I wanted to use this opportunity to let you know that both Sébastien and I put a lot of effort into finding the best content for the React and React Native sections, but I’m sure there is still great stuff that sometimes goes unnoticed. That’s why we’re always open to suggestions, so feel free to let us know when you put something out there!

Hi everyone!

Last week we got great announcements from Vercel Ship and App.js conferences.

I also found the community blog posts very interesting this week! There's a lot of good content to read here. The one about memory leak is quite scary 😅.

I have been wondering lately: is it still useful to write a Twitter thread? I've asked the question on Twitter and feel like nobody reads it anymore, apart a few people. I'm considering stopping. What do you think? 🤔

Hi everyone!

This has been a busy week for us 😄. That React conf didn't disappoint! We weren't there, but our flyer was 😇. We not only had great conf announcements (notably the compiler!), but we had great community articles that I had to postpone a few of them to next week.

Although it's unlikely to calm down because 2 major confs start tomorrow:

  • Vercel Ship, during which Next.js 15 should be announced with a less aggressive caching strategy, Turborepo in dev, Compiler support and more.
  • App.js Conf, also with great React Native announcements expected.

Have a good read and see you next week!

Hi everyone!

This week is calm in terms of releases, so far at least!. We have great React articles, but also some criticisms, or content that suggests we use alternative solutions (Solid, Phoenix LiveView) 😅.

React Conf starts later today! We can expect great things to be presented there, that we'll cover next week. I sent the newsletter a bit earlier today to make sure I can watch it live without any pressure 😄.

The React Conf YouTube live stream link is already available. Looking at the conf agenda, we are particularly excited about the following talks:

  • React and React Native keynotes and Q&A
  • Universal React Server Components in Expo Router - Evan Bacon - Expo
  • Real-time server components - Sunil Pai - PartyKit
  • Spatial computing with React - Michał Pierzchała - Callstack
  • Cross Platform React - Olga Zinoveva and Naman Goel - Meta

Speaking of conferences, the U.S. React Native Conference Chain React is back on July 17-19 (Portland/OR). We partnered to offer you 15% off your ticket with code “TWIR”.

Hi everyone!

We're back after a short break, covering two weeks of news!

I hope you have recovered well from the React 19 beta release 😄 But it's not over, we are entering an exciting period with React Conf, Vercel Ship, App.js and many other conferences just around the corner.

This week, React patching globals was a hot topic in the ecosystem. We also had a few interesting React-related releases, including 2 major headless libraries.

As expected, Expo SDK 51 is out, and it looks like it's a good time to try out the New Architecture.

Looking for a great React summer conf? React Rally tickets are on sale (August 12-13, 🇺🇸 Utah). Our readers get a 10% discount with code "TWIR".

Speaking of discounts, Josh Comeau is also offering one for his flagship course The Joy of React. In addition to an already great discount, our readers get an extra 10% off with code "TWIR"!

Hi everyone!

This week React Native takes the spotlight! But there are also interesting news from Vercel and PRs to take a look at from the React core team.

Earlier this week, I was at React/RN Connection conferences in Paris. It was great to meet some of you there!

The Parisian party is not over. After many years, the great dotJS conference is back in Paris on June 27. They already announced great speakers, including Mark Dalgleish, Malte Ubl, Charlie Gerard, James Q Quick, Ben Lesh... Last regular tickets available, get a 10% discount with my code "TWIR".

Due to the conf, I only had today to work on the newsletter. Thankfully my co-author Benedikt took over and did most of the work this week! 🙏

Next week, the newsletter takes a well-deserved break. We'll be back on May 8.

Hi everyone!

This week we have a nice Next.js release and many interesting community blog posts.

We can also feel that the React core team is working hard to polish the remaining details for React 19. Unexpectedly, a v18.3 is finally planned with extra warnings. React Native 0.74 is also around the corner.

This week I'd like to introduce you to ECMAScript News. It's my favorite newsletter to keep up to date with ES, TC39, JS tooling, and runtimes.

Next week we have React Connection and React Native Connection conferences in Paris. See you there for those that attend 👋. You can still get a -20% discount with my partner code "TWIR".

Hi everyone!

This week I found many React Core PRs to look at. Too many, in fact, so I've saved a few for next week!

After 2D with Skia, it's super excitings to see React Native devs exploring the 3D space!
